Cysts and foreign paranasal sinuses

A cyst is a benign, closed, capillary bubble-like structure that contains fluid, gas, or semisolid material. Most common symptom of a cyst is a long lasting headache, caused by the pressure it puts on the nerve endings of the mucous lining. Cysts can interrupt natural turbinate mucous drainage leading to its imflammation.

Foreign bodies can get into paranasal sinuses either as a result of an open turbinate trauma or certain medical procedures (upper jaw teeth canal fillings). Usually a foreign body may result in a chronic inflammatory process inside the sinus.

DIAGNOSTICS:
Paranasal sinuses state assessment is performed by means of X-ray examination, that is roentgenologic nasal flat plate and/or paranasal sinuses computer tomography. Diagnostic nasal endoscopy is also required to evaluate the intranasal structures. 

TREATMENT:
A cyst or a foreign body should be surgically removed. In contrast with the traditional surgery which implies creating a large opening in the sinus wall, we perform endoscopic sinus exploration via small 4 mm. opening using microinstruments. The operation is minimally invasive and can be performed as an outpatient procedure.
