Upper arm contouring (lifting by means of) plastic surgery

Existing skin excess and fat that hangs down can be removed in the course of (by means of) brachioplasty. Long incisions to remove loose (subcutaneous) fat tissue and tighten up loose skin are made in the armpit and extend to varying amounts down the arm.

Wound margins are closed with uninterrupted nylon sutures in layers after additional mobilization. The identical procedure is done on the opposite side as well. Removed flaps weigh: left side – 145 gm, left – 132 gm. Postoperative aseptic dressing and compression garments are needed on both sides of upper extremities.
Residual surgical scarring is considered to be the major disadvantage of the procedure.
The incisions are placed on the inner arm and stretch (extend) from elbow to (as far as) the armpit. In those cases when the skin tone is preserved the deformity (problem) can be treated with liposuction alone.
This procedure corrects and enhances the arm contour while avoiding the traditional longitudinal scar location (placement). Short (1cm) incisions are created for liposuction cannula in the elbow and armpit area. Sometimes the desired contour can be achieved with liposuction alone.

The average brachioplasty procedure takes 1 or 2 hours and done under general anesthesia. Recovery period depends on the amount (volume) of performed surgery and is associated with some swelling and bruising that gradually resolves in about 2 weeks. You can return to work in 3 – 7 days but some strenuous and hard activity should be avoided. The final result will be seen (become obvious) 4-6 months.
