Laser tattoo removal

People who would like to get rid of their tattoos for one reason or another comprise a special group of patients.
Lasers are used to penetrate the skin and to break up the tattoo ink below the surface. The body then absorbs the smaller particles and the tattoo fades.
When a person decides to decorate his or her body with almost ritual tattoos, it seems for the owner they are permanent. Although sooner or later people begin to feel a great desire to get rid of the tattoos: pictured beasts, flowers or emblems. But tattoos are not just plain pictures; they are deeply implanted in the dermal layers of a shoulder, stomach or some other rather intimate spot.

Earlier methods of tattoo removal, such as chemical peeling, have certain disadvantages and do not always clear them completely. There is also a high probability of eventual scarring, atrophied areas and pigmentation disorders (hyper or hypo-pigmentation) on the treated spots. Lasers work by selectively targeting the pigment of the tattoo ink in the skin with highly concentrated colored light beams without damaging the surrounding skin. These laser beams break up ink particles into tiny fragments which later enter the lymphatic system and are cleared from human organism by scavenging cells. The procedure is bloodless and no incisions are made. A minor disadvantage of the process is that the ink particles fragmenting require numerous sessions depending on the depth of the ink level. Amateur tattoos located in epidermis are removed in 2-4 sessions scheduled about 3-4 weeks apart. As for the professional ones it may require from 7 to 8 sessions due to their deeper placement.

During the treatment, patients feel some tingling and a minor burning sensation that is easily tolerated and quickly goes away. This side effect can be prevented by means of local anesthetics. There is some crusting that develops after the treatment and disappears within 2- 4 days. The tattoo components fade gradually after each treatment and finally go away completely. In some rare cases there was observed a discoloration of the treated area, but will almost never happen in a properly performed procedure.
