Benign growths removal (warts) |
Human skin is a natural protective barrier to the environment, that is why it is more than other tissues influenced (affected) by negative ecological and professional factors. Among various types of cancer, skin cancer is becoming most frequently occurred (widely spread) oncological disease in many countries of the world. Complex structure of skin includes (consists of) cells of different tissues each of which may prone to cancerous change (predisposed to cancerous transformation). This in a way can explain the large variety of tumors that appear on skin requiring (prompting) dermatologist consultations. New growths (tumors) are subdivided into: benign and malignant; congenital (inherited) and acquired. Clinic VIRTUS suggests the following order of the new growths diagnostic procedure: 1. First time (initial) dermatologist appointment (consultation) – when the doctor examines the problem and tries to determine all the circumstances that could clear the cause (or origin) and development of the new growth. 2. Dermatoscopy - is the examination assessment (e.g., direct visual inspection, review of photographs) of skin lesions with a dermatoscope, a magnifier with a light and a liquid medium between the instrument and the skin that helps to distinguish benign from malignant (cancerous) lesions (HEINE, Germany) (рiс.1).
Рiс.1 This diagnostic approach provides a good option to examine the new growth structure, determine the canceration risk (or risk of malignant transformation) (dermatiscopic index - DI) and choose the best way of treatment. 3. Sonography-assisted skin examination (pic. 2) – the new noninvasive technology helps to assess the depth of the examined skin tumor and consequently determine (choose) the appropriate way to remove it, by laser or by surgery (pic. 3 a, b, c).
Рiс.2 Sonography-assisted skin examination Рiс.3а New growths that fall into the category of benign tumors. Laser treatment was recommended
Рiс.3b - Superficial tumor - Sharp and tuberous outlines - Medium degree echogenicity Рiс.3c Removed verrucous nevus
4. Oncolgist consultation is necessary to prove or disapprove (when suspected) the cancerous nature of the examined new growths and choosing the optimal (best) treatment technique.
5. Plastic surgery consultation is necessary in cases when the news growth removal is combined (followed up by) with aesthetic correction of the created defect. It can also be joined by the face rejuvenation procedure.
New growths removal methods. Laser removal is performed by dermatologist operating Er:YAG laser MSL dermadlate equipment (Asclepion, Germany) (Рiс.5).
This method (approach) advantage is based on its minimal damage caused to the surrounding tissues, thus creating small and inconspicuous scar. The laser treatment (the laser growth removal) is carried out under local anesthesia by applying special gel or anesthetic injection. This technique can be used for the following lesions:
- epidermal, intradermal and verrucous nevi;
- new growths resulted (caused by) papilloma virus (warts, condylomas, papillomas); - verrucas planae; - gerontal lentigo, keratomas, seborrheic keratosis, gerontal keratomas, warty horn; Due to the fact that laser is used only for benign tumors removal, for many years VIRTUS clinic has been practicing surgical removal for deep intradermal new growths (tumors) or the cases of existing risk of malignization.
