Allergic Rhinitis

An Allergy is a complicated evolutionary mechanism of immune system defense. It prompts a very fast human organism response in clearing away an allergen – a foreign protein substance that is recognized by human organizm as dangerous (bacteria, viruses, fungus etc). Some allergies primarily cause acute respiratory symptoms like sneezing, stuffy and/or runny nose. Others can cause diverse symptoms like a rash or hives, lip or tounge swelling, wheezing, and short of breath or decreased blood pressure. When an allergen is inhaled and attaches to the nasal mucosa (exposed nasal mucosa with) it causes acute swelling and runny nose. Thus washing away the inhaled allergen and blocking access to new ones.

However, in some cases human immunity system disorders can trigger over-reaction to normally harmless substances called allergens, such as pollen, mold, dust mites or animal dander. Allergic rhinitis is associated with a considerable discomfort and decreasing quality of life. This type of patients’ common complaints is related with frequent nasal congestion, sneezing, coughing, runny nose, sore throat and itchy or watery eyes. Allergic rhinitis can eventually lead to the formation of nasal polyps (polyposis) in adults and nasal pharyngeal tonsil hypertrophy (adenoiditis) in children. Such nasal ailments as septal deviation, hypertrophy or vasomotor rhinitis and nasal polyposis can complicate existing allergic rhinitis.

Diagnostics:

Treatment:

There are two basic techniques; removing the front end of the inferior turbinates or significantly trimming the turbinate along its entire length. In addition the clinic offers such procedures as removal of conchal crests, spurs and polyps, deviated septum correction, ultrasound treatment.
